The inclination of the rear pillar makes the Changan look like a purebred Discovery Sport. You will not make plagiarism allegations: unmistakable borrowings are successfully incorporated into the image of the average modern park tuner. Not the original, but not a fake either.
Moreover, the manufacturing quality could be brought to a world-class level. I can turn a blind eye to the gap between the doors and the slight tilt of the trunk lid. However, the uneven thickness of the iridescent glaze on the body of the CS 55 shines through. And the unpainted interior edges of the body are a direct indication of cost-effectiveness. The absence of a surcharge for such "metallics" is a feeble consolation.
In the new Changan CS55, the only side camera monitors the starboard side and is activated by a button next to the gear selector. But the front seats feel cramped: the upholstery is made up of different shades of Dermatin and connected in some places by uneven seams. However, the filling is thicker, the cushion is longer, and the profile of the backrest is better - it is comfortable to sit on. The steering wheel can be pulled towards you.
Overall, the ergonomics of the model are commendable. The slanted display of the media system does not unexpectedly glare in the sun. The control of the dual-zone air conditioning is logically structured. Unfortunately, the interior remains heated for a long time after a night of parking and is occasionally chilled by cool air loads during drives. Upon closer inspection of the details, it became clear during testing why the interior of the CS55 was updated at home just a year and a half after its debut.
The turbocharged engine of the Changan CS 55 produces 21 horsepower and 30 Nm more than the naturally aspirated engine of the competing Tiggo 4. This is noticeable both at partial throttle and at full throttle. And the responsive responses to additional boost enhance the sense of advantage. "The automatic transmission connects the engine quite well to the drive wheels, and the gear shifts are quick and hardly noticeable. However, if you request a kickdown while driving, you have to expect a delay of a few seconds while the transmission selects the gear.
The crossover's suspension handles potholes of different sizes so well that at some point you simply stop paying attention to the quality of the road surface. You just have to avoid particularly large potholes, and it is better to be prepared for such maneuvers in advance. The CS55 is not strong in speed slalom. Nevertheless, the steering wheel is informative - the deepest roll movements, the obscenely early drift, and the panicky set stabilization system completely disqualify the desire for reckless driving.
